On Saturday, July 18, the Woodstock community in SE Portland gathered to celebrate an annual festival and parade down sunny Woodstock Boulevard. The event brought hundreds of residents to the curb to watch a procession of floats, dancers, bands, and — best of all — a water balloon fight on bikes!
The Woodstock Bike Gallery staff had a blast participating in the event, carrying buckets of balloons in cargo bikes and dousing each other as they circled their way along the parade route. Store manager James Emond was drenched when the balloon ammo was depleted and the fight deteriorated into emptying buckets of water over each other’s heads.
And that was just the beginning of the day. Bike Gallery hosted live music and fresh food in their parking lot throughout the afternoon. Mechanic Mike Donnelly repaired bikes for passers-by while they waited.
The end of the day was marked by the giveaway of a new Trek 820 bike, furnished by Bike Gallery. All and all a big success, thanks to the support of the people and businesses in the Woodstock neighborhood.
