The perfect bike computer

I’m a bit of a technology curmudgeon. Admittedly, some stuff, like blogs, MP3 players, and cell phones are products of our current technological age on which I’ve developed a dependency. However, I am generally slow to get on board with new technology. I’m just a low-tech kinda gal. Bike computers are one technology that I like but have not embraced completely. Oh, I certainly understand their value. I’ve used them in the past and enjoyed knowing things like my current speed, average speed, elevation gain, cadence and distance. If I were training seriously I’m sure that I’d have a cool Trek Incite ACH to help me track my progress. But for the past few years my riding has been pretty casual.

Although I still ride lots of miles, I’ve not been so concerned about recording the data for each ride so my bikes are currently computer-free. I know that my riding partners find this very annoying. I have no shame asking how far we’ve gone, or how fast we’re going, or the time of day (I don’t wear watch usually either). I’m sure they wonder why I just don’t get a computer since I clearly like to know these things during the ride. Mostly, the techy look of most computers just doesn’t match my current attitude towards cycling — these days it’s all about fun and keeping it casual. I think I’ve found the answer to my problem: the Trek Time Computer.

Trek Time

Simplicity vs. feature-richness, your choice. The digital and analog version of the Trek Time next to the all-in-one Trek Incite ACH.

This cool little unit is cute (fits in with my keep it fun principle), inexpensive, and easy to install. It’s also pretty basic, gives me just what I need — time, trip distance, current speed — and it’s wireless! Did I mention the rainbow of color options? So, if you see me out on a ride with a colorful little accessory on my handlebars, you’ll know what’s up. I’ll still probably bug my cycling partners for end of ride data but at least I won’t be harassing them during the ride!
